Frequently Asked Question
01 Can these saunas sit outside fully exposed to the elements?
Absolutely. All timber used in our saunas undergoes a thermal modification process that dramatically improves its resistance to moisture, warping. This increases dimensional stability, reduces water absorption, and improves resistance to rot and insects.
Every sauna also comes with weatherproof bitumen shingles on the roof, working much like the tiles on your house to protect against direct rainfall and sun.
02 What is the power requirement for chiller?
The chiller runs on standard 240V power, so you can plug it straight into a regular power socket. No electrician needed for the chiller.
03 What maintenance is required for the sauna?
Our saunas are designed to be low maintenance but like anything, a little care goes a long way toward keeping it looking and performing its best for decades.
Interior: When you first install your sauna, we recommend treating the interior benches with paraffin oil. It penetrates the timber to prevent it from drying out and cracking under repeated heat cycles, keeping the wood from absorbing sweat and moisture over time. This also makes the surface easier to wipe down and keep clean, we recommend reapplying 12 months.
Exterior: For the outside, use a quality penetrating oil designed for exterior timber. Brands like Cutek, Intergrain, or Osmo UV Protection Oil all work well. These oils soak deep into the wood, protect against moisture and UV damage, and allow the timber to breathe naturally. They also come in tintable options if you want to add some colour while keeping that natural timber look. We recommend reapplying every 6–12 months depending on your climate and exposure.
After each session: Once you're done, leave the heater running for around 30 minutes with the door closed to dry out any residual moisture inside the sauna. Then open the door and let it air out for another 30 minutes before closing it up. Give the benches a quick wipe down and remove any towels or damp items.
04 Can I install the sauna myself?
Absolutely, our saunas are designed for straightforward DIY assembly and most customers find it a pretty enjoyable project. Everything arrives clearly labelled with detailed instructions to guide you through the process.
If you'd prefer to have it professionally installed, we have a network of qualified installers across Australia who can take care of it for you. Just reach out to our team and we'll point you in the right direction.
05 Do I need an electrician to install the heater?
Yes, your heater needs to be hardwired directly to your home's switchboard by a licensed electrician. It cannot simply be plugged in. The electrician will run a dedicated cable straight from your switchboard to the heater, similar to how an oven or cooktop is wired in. We have a network of electricians across Australia and can recommend one in your local area if needed.
06 Can I upgrade my heater after purchase?
Yes, but it's costly. If you start with the base Harvia Wall SW and later want to upgrade, you can't simply add a control panel as the SW doesn't support one. You'd need to replace the entire heater with the Harvia Wall SWE and then install the control panel. Choose the right heater from the start and save yourself the hassle and expense.
07 How much will both cost to run?
Sauna: A typical two-hour session costs around $2.15 – $2.80 using average Australian electricity rates.
Ice Bath: Daily cost of $0.50c, running the chiller for the average 8-12 hours.
08 Is delivery free everywhere in Australia?
Yes, delivery is completely free anywhere in Australia. Whether you're in Far North Queensland or down in Tasmania, we'll get your sauna and ice bath to your front door at no extra cost.
09 How will my sauna and ice bath be delivered?
Once your sauna/ice bath is dispatched from our warehouse, you'll receive a tracking email with your exact delivery date so you can follow it the whole way to your door.
On delivery day, we'll contact you in the morning to confirm you're home and give you a two-hour arrival window plus a call 30 minutes before the driver arrives. Your sauna, heater, ice bath and all accessories arrive packed in a sturdy timber crate, delivered on a truck equipped with a tail lift for safe unloading. We will bring the crate onto your property, typically into your garage or around the side of the house wherever access permits. If access is restricted, it will be left safely in your driveway or on the front curb while you're present, so it's never left somewhere you're not happy with.

010 Why buy from Nova/Primal Ice over other brands?
Nova builds elite traditional saunas. Primal Ice builds elite ice baths. Rather than trying to do both ourselves and delivering a half asked version of either, we teamed up. Two specialists working together, each obsessing over their own product.
The result? The highest quality contrast therapy packages on the market.
